Sunday in Seattle

Today Sedi added two new words to her vocabulary: "Truck" and "Purse". Somehow I feel this captures something essential about her personality.

In other news we went to the Asian-Pacific Cultural Heritage Celebration at the Seattle Center and watched the Chinese Girls Marching Drill Team, several Hula dancers and a troupe of break dancers. Sedi mainly did semi-graceful flops onto the floor and Jake showed off his moves by taking flying leaps off the stroller. Then Jake and I enjoyed Frog & Toad: The Musical at the Seattle Children's Theater while Sedi Napped at home. The show was witty and wonderful and Jake got quite a kick out of showing the actor who played "Frog" the Froggy Boots that he happened to be wearing.

A day at the Ranch

Many amusements today.
  • As we got ready to leave the house this morning, Jake announced that Captain Hook would be joining us on the way to school. The minivan started up and Jake announced, "Okay...I helped him put on his seat belt. He's all secure now." Upon arrival at school Jake's teacher asked if Captain Hook was invisible, and Jake looked at her like "Oh you are so silly" and said, "Of course he's not invisible." And then, as if anticipating her next question, "He didn't bring his hook to school."
  • Spring is springing and we enjoyed some fresh asparagus at dinner. Well some of us enjoyed it more than others. Jake was coaxed ito one teeny tiny bite. Tink ate copiously....but only the tops. I said to her: "What is this, you only eating the tops! What are you, a princess?" And she answered with her best (soon to be trademarked) chortle: "Yeah!!"
  • Jake was a sweet brother today. When Sedi got a bit agitated over something at dinner he said-sang to her "Don't worry about a thing...every little thing is gonna be alright." He's off to an early start with Bob Marley.
  • After bath and a pretend flight to New York City in our under-sink cabinet/airplane, Jake lay down in his cozy towel on the floor saying with a poetic sigh: "I'm just going to sleep on our airplane. The moon and stars are gleaming through the airplane skylight."
  • And just yesterday, As he was leaning over the baby-gate dangling his fathr's terry robe belt over the stairs our young poet remarked, upon being asked , "What are you doing?"..."Well..I'm doing something suspicious." At least he knows what is what!

A visit to Marin and Sedi turns 16 months

Below are some photos from our quick visit to Marin last weekend. (For a full set of photos go to our April ClubPhoto album). it was Sedi's 16 month birthday on April 27. She celebrated by choosing to add a new word to her repetoire: "Shoe". This is a girl who loves footwear (and is somewhat shockingly into accessories as well, bags, scarves and gloves are all integral parts of her chosen wardrobe.) This very important word joins "Up, Hello, Bye-Bye, Yeah (with gusto), Woof-woof and Zoom (the sound a car or airplane makes).

Field Trip to Seattle Center

This afternoon we took a little outing to the Seattle Center for "Animal Day." Higlights inlcuded pony rides, Nellie & Harold the performing pigs, and rides on the ferris wheel and rollercoaster (Jakey's first time!). A good time was had by all. We then came home for dinner whereupon the kids devored about a pound of broiled salmon.

Everyone enjoying the ferris wheel. Both loudly & contemplatively.

Sunday's Jakey-isms

Jakey the Power Ranger
Jake, Sedi and I were upstairs hanging out. I was storing her outgrown clothes and bringing out new things in her new sizes. And I hear from across the room, "Power Rangers push.....Power Rangers slam doors." And then a few minutes later I see Jake patting Sedi's head and saying, "Power Rangers say you are a bad girl." So I enquire:
ME: "Jake, where did you learn about Power Ranges?"
JAKE: "In School...."
ME: "From someone in school?"
JAKE: "From....Nathan" (Nathan who has 2 older brothers)
Then...About half an hour and many other events later:
JAKE: "Power Rangers do all the things you're not supposed to do!"
I think our son just named his id.

Jake's self-assessment
At dinner Jake is wearing size 18-month fleece-lined overalls that he got out of Sedi's drawer. He's quite pleased with them and has announced that he loves them and will sleep in them and wear them every day.
I comment: "Jake, you're looking mighty cute in those overalls"
He replies, with a rather angelic smile on his face: "I'm always cute!"
Mother's Mental list: Self esteem? Check.

Sedi at 15 months
Sedi Anne had her 15 month check up this week. She's 29lbs 7 oz (97%), 32inches (85%) and 47.4 head circumf (85%). The Dr. pronounced her a healthy baby.

Sedi's comprehension has taken a major leap in the past week. Today I said "Sedi, can you look in that box and get a shoe?" and...She did! Later I said, "Tink, it's time to brush teeth." and she climbed up on the stool by the sink and started reaching for the toothbrush.

She has quite a personality. She's as sweet as can be, but also t-o-u-g-h. She doesn't let Jake get away with anything (much to his dismay). She's also got some girlie-girl qualities. She loves to try on shoes of all sizes. She loves purses and scarves. She loves books and is always bringing them over an plopping herself down in my lap with them. She is wild about animals, especially dogs and she loves to play ball..rolling balls, throwing balls and carrying them around. A young rugger perhaps?

Welcome to The Blachies' Blog

Hello Everyone,

We decided to enter the brave new world of the blogoshpere with, what else, a family blog. We figured that this is the 21st century version of a baby-book, and a nice way to keep everyone up to date on our various and random adventures. Let's see how it goes :-)

To start it off, here are a few pictures from our trip to Half Moon in Jamaica.

Sedi Anne and Blach enjoyed the Easter Egg hunt. Posted by Hello
